Today will jump start the anniversary, it will set the standard for our literary refuge, when one day we talk about the halcyon days, this will be it.
The Woman In Black by Susan Hill is our first read. One of the guys wanted horror, something short and to keep us up at night wanting to read more I suppose, or just to let fear take over our better senses. Personally the book did a great job at keeping me up but not for the latter reason mentioned above.
The book starts of merry, a family enjoying the holidays, Christmas, telling ghost stories of course. I'm going to bring that tradition back, forget presents, bring out the candles and blankets! Maybe this should have been a winter read for me, I wasn't scared as I thought I would be (thankfully) but I was intrigued by the setting, especially when our protagonist gets lost in an estuary with an amphitheater of fog, haunted by sounds of screams and silence. I don't want to go any further as it will ruin the book. The movie was very different compared to the book, and is the book always better in this case? Yes, I would say so. I'll save my favorite words, lines and such for our club meeting.
The idea of a book club where we meet and talk about the book is really exciting, really what could be more fun than that??? For years I've been wanting to do this. It hasn't happen because one, I barely read anything outside forced academic work, two, I average one book a year, the percentage of reading books daily on a monthly basis was against my lifestyle. Now that's different, it's all about to change.
